Report: Liverpool want to sign ‘one of the best midfielders in the world’, Iniesta says he’s a ‘huge player’

Liverpool are reportedly very interested in signing PSG midfielder Marco Verratti, with Atletico Madrid also chasing the Italian international.

According to Marca, the Reds are keeping a close eye on the 30-year-old’s situation with PSG as rumours continue to build that Verratti could leave Paris this summer, with Liverpool leading the charge for the midfielder.

Lauded by ESPN Verratti as ‘world-class’, Verratti has been at the top of the European game for what feels like forever with PSG, yet a move to Liverpool could now be on the cards for the Ligue 1 superstar

Hailed by Goal as ‘one of the best midfielders in the world’ and a talent who FC Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta once described as a ‘huge player’, there’s no denying just how exciting a signing Verratti could be for Liverpool.

However, with PSG demanding as much as €70m (£60m) for the 30-year-old, Liverpool might be cautious about paying so much for a player of the Italian’s age, even with funds coming into the club this week.

Indeed, Verratti would be an instant replacement for both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. Yet given how Liverpool work, it would be out-of-character of the Reds to sign a world-class player at the peak of his powers.

Verratti is without question one of the best midfielders in the world, and whilst the Italian could be great at Liverpool, the Reds must be certain that the PSG star is exactly who they want this summer.

As we know, Jurgen Klopp has been aiming to lower the average age of his squad this window. with Verratti a signing that would have the opposite effect on the team.

However, given just how good Verratti is, there could be a strong case to dismiss this transfer policy and to go all-out on the PSG maestro, who would be quite the addition for Liverpool this window.
