DURHAM, N.C. — At Duke, excellence isn’t just celebrated—it’s expected. Once again, the men’s basketball program has shown that its success reaches far beyond the court. Seven Blue Devils have been selected to the 2024–25 All-ACC Academic Team, highlighting the program’s continued commitment to developing top-tier athletes who also thrive in the classroom.
The student-athletes honored include: Tyrese Proctor, Caleb Foster, Jared McCain, Mark Mitchell, Sean Stewart, Jaden Schutt, and TJ Power—each of whom has successfully balanced the intensity of ACC competition with the demands of a Duke education.
A Model of Balance and Discipline
For Head Coach Jon Scheyer, the recognition reflects Duke’s broader philosophy.
“Here, we aim for championship standards in every area,” said Scheyer. “These young men represent what it means to be a complete student-athlete. Their hard work, focus, and discipline are what earned them this distinction.”
To make the All-ACC Academic Team, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and be significant contributors on the court—a feat made even more impressive by Duke’s academic rigor and national basketball spotlight.
Excellence in All Arenas
Among the honorees, Tyrese Proctor has consistently led both academically and athletically. Jared McCain, known for his on-court flair and off-court personality, has proven equally dedicated to his studies.
“Being great at Duke means being disciplined in every part of your life,” said McCain. “We take pride in meeting those expectations.”
Foster, Mitchell, and Stewart have earned praise from faculty for their ability to excel despite the challenges of busy travel and demanding schedules. Schutt and Power, valuable depth players, have also stood out for their steady academic performance.
Building on a Proud Tradition
Duke’s presence on the All-ACC Academic Team is nothing new. The program has long been a benchmark for academic excellence in the conference, regularly producing more honorees than any of its peers.
“This is just who Duke is,” said ACC analyst Corey Alexander. “They’ve built a program that consistently develops complete student-athletes. It’s something recruits and families recognize immediately.”
Looking Ahead
As the Blue Devils look ahead to the 2025–26 season with championship aspirations, this academic recognition serves as a powerful reminder of what underpins their success: a foundation of discipline, time management, and relentless growth.
“This honor is great,” said Proctor. “But we’re not done—we’re always striving for more.”
Closing Thoughts
In a sport that often emphasizes flashy highlights and high-scoring performances, Duke continues to show that academic achievement matters just as much. With seven Blue Devils earning All-ACC Academic honors, the program reinforces its identity as a place where excellence is expected—on the court, in the classroom, and beyond.
