“He Was One of the Best at 17”  Celtic Keeper Hails Benjamin Nygren as a Sleeper Signing with World-Class Potential

“He Was One of the Best at 17”  Celtic Keeper Hails Benjamin Nygren as a Sleeper Signing with World-Class Potential

Celtic remain active in the summer transfer market as Brendan Rodgers looks to add more quality to key areas before the window closes. While names like Ross Doohan, Callum Osmand, Kieran Tierney, and Hayato Inamura have already arrived at Parkhead, one lesser-known addition might be the most intriguing of all.

That player? Benjamin Nygren a 24-year-old winger whose name may not carry global weight just yet, but according to someone who knows him well, could turn out to be a blockbuster signing.

Sinisalo’s High Praise

Celtic goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo recently spoke with journalist Michael Gannon, revealing just how highly he rates Nygren. The two players faced off several times at youth level when representing Finland and Sweden respectively, and Sinisalo’s memories of those battles remain vivid.

“When he was 17, he was one of the best in the world,” Sinisalo said.

That’s not casual praise. It’s a massive endorsement from someone who’s seen Nygren’s potential up close. According to Gannon on Hotline Live, Sinisalo genuinely believes Celtic might’ve just landed a hidden gem  someone with natural ability and sky-high upside.

A Low-Risk Gamble with Huge Upside

Michael Gannon described the move as “a classic Celtic punt.” A signing that might cost little now but could return tenfold in the future  or simply fade into the background. Still, Nygren’s pedigree suggests there’s more here than just a hopeful flyer.

“He could become a £50 million player in 12 months,” Gannon said. “Or end up out on loan again in Belgium. But Sinisalo is convinced the former is more likely.”

Indeed, while Nygren’s career hit a rough patch in Belgium, his technical ability and game sense remain intact. Now at Celtic, he gets a fresh start under a manager who knows how to develop attacking talent.

International Resume and Room to Grow

Despite his young age, Nygren already has four senior caps for Sweden, with significant experience in the youth national ranks. His name has long been mentioned among the most promising in Scandinavia, and if his early form with Celtic matches his pedigree, he could be on the verge of a serious breakout.

Still just 24, Nygren’s best football may lie ahead  and with consistent minutes and the right environment, he could be one of Celtic’s most clever signings in recent years.

As the summer window progresses, the spotlight may shift to bigger names, but Celtic fans would be wise to keep a close eye on Benjamin Nygren. The raw talent is there. The international experience is real. And according to one of his former on-pitch rivals, he once looked like one of the best in the world.

Now, it’s up to Celtic to unlock that player once again.
