UNC Basketball Lands Veteran Guard from Virginia Tech
North Carolina has added a seasoned backcourt presence with the commitment of Jaydon Young, a sophomore guard who took a significant step forward in his second year at Virginia Tech.
Young, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound native of Goldsboro, N.C., officially joined the Tar Heels on Friday. He arrives with two seasons of ACC experience and a reputation for development. A former three-star prospect out of Greensboro Day School, Young saw limited minutes as a freshman but became a more prominent contributor last season.
Appearing in all 32 games and starting 10, Young averaged 8.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. Despite modest shooting numbers — 34.7 percent from the field and 29.6 percent from deep — he emerged as a reliable rotation piece for the Hokies, who ended their season with a 13-19 record.
In 247Sports’ transfer portal rankings, the 20-year-old is listed at No. 354 overall and No. 84 among shooting guards. His addition boosts UNC’s 2025 transfer class to five players, now ranked No. 16 nationally and No. 2 in the ACC behind only Louisville.
