The top point guard of the upcoming season will be on campus at Kentucky.
Francis John Morgan Since 2016, A Sea of Blue has employed John Morgan Francis as an editor. Although the Kentucky basketball team is in the middle of its offseason, head coach Mark Pope is always working hard, especially this week when he hosts Taylen Kinney, the top point guard in the Class of 2026.
Kinney, who is 6-1 and presently plays for Overtime Elite, is ranked as the 11th best prospect in the class of the following year. He is originally from Newport, Kentucky, and was teammates with new UK guard Jasper Johnson last season, which should help him get signed to the Wildcats.
During Team USA’s U19 training camp, he also spent time with Johnson and Malachi Moreno, an incoming Wildcat and fellow native of Kentucky. Kinney has already made trips to Purdue and Louisville this year as part of his recruiting. Later in 2025, he also intends to travel to Oregon. Additionally, Alabama is interested in the top point guard. Since Pope and his team have already had multiple unofficial meetings with Kinney, this visit should only improve ties between the two countries.
