The Duke Blue Devils are entering a new era after an impressive season led by standout freshmen Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, and Khaman Maluach.
Duke wrapped up the season with a 35-4 record and made it all the way to the NCAA Final Four. Although their run ended with a loss to Houston, they notched key victories over Alabama, Arizona, Baylor, and Mount St. Mary’s during March Madness.
Now, head coach Jon Scheyer faces the challenge of rebuilding a roster that’s losing one of the most talented freshman groups in the program’s history.
Known for their selective recruiting approach, Duke recently landed a major addition from the transfer portal: Cedric Coward from Washington State. The move appears to be an ideal fit for both sides.
Coward is transferring to Duke and will compete in the ACC alongside elite incoming freshman Cameron Boozer, one of the most highly regarded high school players in the country.
After Coward announced his commitment on social media, Boozer responded simply: “Oh yea.”
Boozer, a five-star recruit, is entering his first college season after leading Columbus High School in Florida to a state championship. According to 247Sports, he’s the top-ranked power forward and the No. 3 overall prospect nationally.
Coward brings valuable experience, having averaged 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game last season at Washington State. With one year of eligibility remaining, he’s expected to help fill the gap left by Flagg and the departing freshmen, joining a strong incoming class.
