Lexington Native Jaylan Green Returns Home to Join Kentucky Basketball Staff as Graduate Assistant
Jaylan Green, a former standout at Frederick Douglass High School, is coming back to his hometown to begin his coaching career. The Lexington native has joined the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball program as a graduate assistant for the 2025–26 season, he announced on Twitter.
Green made a name for himself in high school, averaging 16.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as a senior and collecting numerous postseason accolades. He went on to play at Transylvania University, where he became one of the top performers in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, earning First-Team All-Conference honors in 2022–23 and 2023–24. As a senior, he averaged 17.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and led the team in scoring, steals, and three-point shooting.
Following his three standout years at Transy, Green transferred to Ohio Dominican University, where he continued his basketball career while pursuing a Master’s degree in Data Analytics. In his final college season, he appeared in 28 games and contributed 5.8 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in a reserve role.
Now, Green is returning to Rupp Arena — not as a player, but as a young coach looking to make his mark. His appointment reflects head coach Mark Pope’s emphasis on cultivating coaching talent with strong Kentucky ties. Green’s journey from local star to staff member is a full-circle moment that resonates deeply with Big Blue Nation.
