Prior to the team’s season-ending match against Manchester United, Liverpool Women announced the departures of six members of the squad.
The team announced on their official website that a handful of periphery players will depart this summer when their contracts expire.
After contributing in different ways to Liverpool securing its Women’s Super League status for 2023–24, Megan Campbell, Carla Humphrey, Leighanne Robe, and Rhiannon Roberts will all leave the Reds at the conclusion of the current season.
Ashley Hodson, a recent academy graduate who holds the club record for appearances, will also be leaving after nine years and 135 games played for the team.
The midfielder has spent this season on loan at Birmingham, but she was a member of the team that won the Women’s Championship and gained promotion to the first flight in 2021/22.
Charlotte Clarke will also leave at the end of the season after going the whole 2022–23 season without making a single league appearance.
“I know our fans will join me in wishing all the players moving on the very best of luck in the future. It is a natural part of football for squads to evolve and change, but we will be following their future progress with great interest,” said manager Matt Beard in regards to the six players who would be leaving.
I’m glad we have a final game on Saturday so the fans can honor their efforts in games, on the practice field, and in the team.
This weekend, as they play their final game of the season at Prenton Park, the Reds will visit Man United in an effort to deny their rivals the Women’s Super League championship.
With Chelsea sitting two points ahead of Man United heading into the weekend’s games, a victory would prevent the visitors from passing them on the last day.
