Report: Leeds United want to sign ‘unbelievable’ defenderl

Nat Phillips, a defender for Liverpool, has drawn interest from Leeds United.

Leeds United is reportedly interested in signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips this summer, according to the Athletic (subscription required).

Regardless of who their next manager will be, Leeds are reportedly interested in the player.

According to Transfermarkt, Liverpool will expect somewhere around £10 million for a player whose deal at Anfield expires in the summer of 2025.

Phillips, who didn’t get much regular playing time at Anfield, had a promising loan season at Bournemouth in the 2021/22 season, when the Cherries were in the Championship.

The 26-year-old made a total of five senior appearances for Liverpool last season. Hence, if he intends to leave the club in view to play regular minutes, we cannot fault him for that.

Moreover, having seen him do well in the Championship, his game would suit him well in that league. Therefore, Leeds getting him for potentially £10m would be a great business for them as well.

For the Reds, it is an opportunity to vacate one slot in the squad and get some cash that can be used to make signings in the summer window.

After a good start with the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, things have gone quiet in the market. Let’s hope the work is going behind the scenes to get the necessary additions done before the pre-season kicks off.

Regarding Phillips, it would be great for him to make a move this summer and play the games needed for him to develop further as a player. He is 26 now and should be playing more to become that ‘Premier League standard’ player. Whether he can do that at Leeds and help them get back up a division, we will wait and see.
