A Dream Come True: Reece Potter was certain that he would commit the moment Kentucky requested. “I Bleed Blue for Life.”

Reece Potter Says Kentucky Call Was a Dream Come True: “I Knew Right Then”

When Reece Potter entered the transfer portal in late March, he had no idea just how quickly things would escalate. The former Miami (OH) big man suddenly found himself fielding calls and messages from top-tier programs he never expected would be interested schools like North Carolina, UConn, Washington, and Louisville.

“It was surreal,” Potter told KSR. “My phone was blowing up with calls and texts from coaches making their pitch. Hearing from guys like Hubert Davis and Dan Hurley people I’ve watched on TV for years  was just crazy.”

But once Kentucky reached out, everything changed.

“The second they called, I was like, ‘That’s it. I’m done talking to anyone else. Let’s get to work,’” he said.

For Potter, a Lexington native, the chance to come home and play for the Wildcats was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Other schools might have offered more minutes or financial incentives, but none could match what Kentucky represented.

Still, he didn’t commit right away. His parents encouraged him to take a step back and think it through, ensuring the decision was made with clarity and not just emotion.

“When Kentucky called, it really was a dream come true,” Potter said. “But my parents were like, ‘Take a week, settle down, and really consider what this means.’ Even though I knew deep down it was where I wanted to be, they helped me make sure it was the right move.”

In the end, that week of reflection only confirmed what his heart already knew  Kentucky was home.
