Otega Oweh appears to be moving toward an NBA Draft deadline decision.

If you were hoping for an early NBA Draft decision from Otega Oweh, you might be disappointed.

According to NBA Draft consultant Rafael Barlowe, who spoke with Jacob Polacheck, it appears the Kentucky standout will wait until the May 28th withdrawal deadline to announce his decision. This mirrors last year’s scenario when Kentucky had to wait until the final moments for Jaxson Robinson’s decision and it looks like history might repeat itself with Oweh.

Oweh recently hinted that he plans to participate in as many private team workouts as possible before deciding.

“I believe I’m a first-round guy,” Oweh said. “I’m going to give it everything in these workouts and evaluate where I stand once they’re done.”

It’s common for players to work out for teams right up until the deadline, and Oweh seems to be using every opportunity to prove he belongs in the first round.

On the bright side for Kentucky, the program could offer Oweh an NIL package that might surpass what he’d earn as a late first- or early second-round NBA pick.

That said, major mock drafts currently don’t project Oweh as a second-rounder. While it only takes one team to take a chance, that team hasn’t surfaced yet.

Let’s hope this doesn’t turn into a repeat of the Robinson situation, or even a Hamidou Diallo style midnight announcement.

The official withdrawal deadline is 11:59 PM ET on May 28.
