Aston Villa strengthened their chances of securing Champions League

Aston Villa strengthened their chances of securing Champions League qualification with a dominant 4–1 win over third-placed Newcastle United at Villa Park.

This victory extended Villa’s unbeaten home streak across all competitions to 19 matches, marking their longest such run since a 20-game streak between April 1990 and February 1991.

Villa got off to an ideal start, with Ollie Watkins scoring within the first minute of his return to the starting lineup. The goal leveled Gabby Agbonlahor’s Premier League scoring record for the club. Watkins’ shot from inside the box deflected past Newcastle’s goalkeeper Nick Pope, who was unable to make a save.
