Sverre Nypan, the 18-year-old midfielder from Rosenborg, is getting closer to completing a move to Aston Villa, despite previously being on the brink of joining Arsenal during the January transfer window.
The Norwegian talent visited London Colney earlier this year and was among the players scouted by Arsenal’s recruitment team, who saw him as a long-term midfield investment. Although the Premier League leaders were willing to meet Rosenborg’s asking price, the final decision ultimately rested with Nypan.
Discussions regarding personal terms and the transfer fee are still ongoing, but sources suggest that an agreement could be reached in the coming weeks. Nypan and his representatives reportedly see a clear path to regular playing time at Villa Park, which has played a significant role in his preference for the club.
“That’s cool,” said Pål André Helland, a Premier League analyst for Viaplay, speaking to Aftenpost. “That’s the team with the shortest route into the squad. While this is just speculation on my part, the plan that has been laid out must be very appealing to Nypan. This is a team that’s in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. While playing time can never be guaranteed, having a clear plan is crucial.”
