5-INT Houston safety shows a great deal of dedication to LSU.

LSU Strengthens Secondary with Transfer of Ball-Hawking Safety A.J. Haulcy from Houston

Looking to boost its pass defense heading into the 2025 season, LSU football made a key addition from the transfer portal by securing former Houston safety A.J. Haulcy.

With concerns over a lack of interceptions, the Tigers addressed the issue by bringing in Haulcy, who recorded five picks last season. On3 confirmed the standout defender’s commitment to LSU, which emerged as a top landing spot once the calendar turned to May.

Haulcy, a 6-foot, 215-pound defensive back, brings valuable experience to Baton Rouge, having started every game over the last two seasons for the Cougars. In addition to his interceptions, he broke up 13 passes and earned First-Team All-Conference honors in the Big 12.

Beginning his college career at New Mexico, Haulcy quickly showcased his instincts and ball skills before transferring to Houston. Now, he arrives at LSU with a proven track record and is expected to play a major role in improving the Tigers’ defensive takeaway potential.
