£100m player tells fans he wants to leave, after being linked with Liverpool move

Reported Liverpool target Moises Caicedo told guests he wants to leave Brighton at a club award function last night.

Caicedo was a key figure at the ceremony, collecting both the player’s and fan’s Player of the Season award. However, according to Sussex World, all was not as rosy as it appeared at the event.

They claim to have been told by two different guests of the evening that Caicedo ‘didn’t hold anything back’ when discussing his desire to leave Brighton

The 21-year-old has been heavily courted by Chelsea, with the Blues so far seeing two offers rejected. But Liverpool have been frequently mentioned as still having an eye on proceedings themselves.

And although a move to Stamford Bridge seems most likely, Sussex World claim that Caicedo ‘refused to discuss Chelsea’ when guests asked about a preferred destination.

Instead, the Ecuador international reportedly kept his cards close to his chest.

Perhaps Liverpool do still have a dog in this fight after all.

Caicedo starts to get restless

For the time being, it seems that Caicedo has two options remaining this summer: join Chelsea, or stay put at Brighton.

For their part, his current club have been very clear in their stance. Either the Blues – or any side – pony up £100m or their Player of the Year is going nowhere [The Guardian].

It remains to be seen if that stance softens over the course of the next four weeks or so. Certainly, if Caicedo pushes hard for the move, it’s difficult to see how they can keep that up.

By the sounds of this report, the Ecuador international might be ready to start the push to leave.

As he showed with a statement on social media in January, he’s not averse to taking things public if needs be. Perhaps last night was the first sign of that starting to happen.

As far as Liverpool are concerned, none of this may matter a jot. There’s certainly no chance of them paying anything like £100m for Caicedo.

But should the Brighton man start to get a little more restless, and his club have to come down on their valuation, maybe the Reds could yet join the party. This is still one to keep an eye on.
